• Nearly $1M in state money to lock up student phones — and Newark gets the most (nj1015.com) — Asbury Park School District is getting $5,156 to help lock up student phones during the school day, part of a new statewide push for “bell‑to‑bell” phone‑free learning in grades 6–12. Newark schools received the largest share of nearly $1 million in grants, which districts can use for secure storage systems and staff training on the stricter policies.
   

• Kiwanis International President Makes His Home in Interlaken (thecoaster.net) — Asbury Park residents may be surprised to learn that the global president of Kiwanis International lives just next door in Interlaken and recently joined the Kiwanis Club of Asbury Park for its officer installation. He praised the club’s Holiday Toy Drive as a model of how local volunteers can tackle community problems, even while he juggles worldwide travel and a long-time financial career in Shrewsbury.
