To be considered on the list, a company has to either be one of the 1,000 largest in the United States by revenue, or a company based outside the United States in Fortune’s Global 500 database that has a revenue of $10 billion or more.
This assortment of companies was subsequently narrowed down to include the 680 highest-revenue companies in each industry, such as computer software, entertainment and real estate.
The overall rankings were then compiled by Forbes in partnership with the management consulting company Korn Ferry by surveying executives, directors and analysts in their own industry.
