ASBURY PARK. – A 31-year-old Asbury Park man has been charged with attempted murder after slashing his girlfriend’s throat, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.

David O. Whittaker of Asbury Park was arrested on Aug. 29 and charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, according to a complaint provided by the MCPO.

The incident happened on Aug. 29 when Whittaker, using a black-handle butcher-style knife, slashed and cut his girlfriend's throat during a dispute, according to the MCPO.
The complaint said Whittaker grabbed the victim by the back fo the head and stood over her as he slashed her throat.

Whittaker was lodged in the Monmouth County Jail and his first appearance was scheduled for last week.
