Asbury Park Presents Lists Of Community Improvement Projects

ASBURY PARK – Asbury Park has prepared its 5-year "Consolidated Plan" that includes a wish list of community improvement projects.

The consolidated plan was adopted to enable the city to apply to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for funds under the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.

This five-year plan includes an assessment of housing and homelessness needs in the city, a housing market analysis and a strategic plan to address housing and non-housing needs.

In addition, a one-year Action Plan must be completed each year of the Consolidated Plan to describe the activities to be undertaken with CDBG funds.

The primary Consolidated Plan objectives for the program year 2020-2025 are as follows:

  • Develop a housing system with mechanism for the production, distribution and financing of a variety of housing types for households of all income levels.
  • Address the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless through a coordinated effort with those Monmouth County public and non-profit agencies that provide homeless services.
  • Provide various types of housing assistance and services to the special needs segment of the City’s population.
  • Provide a suitable living environment for low-and-moderate-income residents of the City.

The city has a proposed budget for the 2020 Annual Action Plan of $413,857 for the following activities:

  • Administration
  • Road Improvements
  • Parks/Playgrounds/Tree Services
  • Sidewalk Repairs
  • Community Events
  • Public Facility Improvements
  • Police Security Cameras
  • Electronic Sign

The City will held a public hearing via-Zoom-Meeting on the fiscal year 2020-2025 Consolidated Plan and the 2020 Annual Action Plan at 10 a.m. In addition, a draft of the Consolidated Plan and Annual Action Plan will be on the City’s website at Www.cityofasburypark.com.
