Gov. Murphy Pays Tribute To Asbury Park 'RockStar' Business Owner

ASBURY PARK – Gov. Phil Murphy paid tribute to an Asbury Park "RockStar" business owner on Monday whom he believes has been a role model for helping others amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Murphy said the Confections of a Rock$tar Bakery on Cookman Avenue is a "tremendous small business working hard to keep our communities and our economy strong."

Kimmee Masi and her partner, Lisa, who operate the rock-and-roll themed cake shop where everything is made from scratch and everything has a bit of rock-and-roll attitude, have worked with the state Economic Development Authority to receive a grant that has allowed them to pay their bills and stay in business, the governor said.

Kimmee has also been an ambassador for Asbury Park's small businesses generally, using her social media presence – 18,000 followers and counting – to promote other places in Asbury Park over the past months, Murphy said.

"I had the opportunity to check in with Kimmy last week to thank her for her strength and advocacy," Murphy said during his Monday news conference. "Asbury Park is lucky to have her."

Confections of a Rock$tar opened in 2012 when Kimmee and Lisa combined their two passions, music and baking, Murphy said.

"For the past eight years, the shop has been a must-do on Cookman Avenue and has also been the scene of numerous wedding proposals, with Kimmee baking the cakes for many of those subsequent weddings," Murphy said.
