• Asbury Park School District Gets Grant Money For A Cell Phone Ban (patch.com) — Families in Asbury Park should expect a new cell phone ban for students in grades 6-12 after the local school district received more than $5,000 in state grant funding. The money will help pay for secure storage like lockers or locked pouches so phones stay put from bell to bell, part of a broader New Jersey effort backed by Gov. Phil Murphy to limit classroom distractions and social media use during the school day.
   

• NJ stars Deron Rippey Jr., Julius Avent to headline Metro Classic (nj.com subscription) — A charter school team from Asbury Park is among programs connected to players featured in the high-profile Metro Classic basketball showcase at Stockton University in early 2026. The three-day event will bring top-ranked high school boys and girls teams, ESPN-rated recruits, and college coaches to New Jersey, with tickets already on sale online.
