Man Who Fired A Gun On Monmouth County Street Charged With Attempted Murder

Police were called there for a 911 call of shots fired on April 9 and upon arrival, detectives located five 9mm shell casings.

ASBURY PARK, NJ — A 19-year-old Asbury Park man was charged with attempted murder after police say he fired a gun on the street in that city in April, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago said Friday.

Jahsaad Banks, 19, was charged with one count of first-degree attempted murder and multiple counts of second-degree illegal gun charges.

Police say he discharged the gun at approximately 6:54 p.m. April 9 on the 1100 block of Atlantic Avenue. Asbury Park Police were called there for a 911 call of shots fired and upon arrival, detectives located five 9mm shell casings.

Nobody was hit by the bullet spray.

An investigation by members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Bureau and the Asbury Park Police Department identified Banks as the suspect.

He was located in Asbury Park this Wednesday, and arrested by members of the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Task Force.

He is currently being held at the Monmouth County Jail pending his first appearance in Monmouth County Superior Court.
