Short-Term Rentals in Asbury Park Suspended

ASBURY PARK – In an effort to limit travel to the city to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus, Asbury Park will be suspending all short-term rentals in Asbury Park beginning on Wednesday, and until further notice.

All realtors and property owners are required to immediately stop short-term/vacation rentals (such as those advertised through services including AirBNB, VRBO and HomeAway) whether done online, or in-person.

The city will revisit the suspension at the end of the month and is hopeful short-term rentals will be reinstated before the summer season. An update will be issued prior to April 30, 2020.

"We are doing everything in our power to protect our community and this is not a decision we take lightly,” said Mayor John Moor,.“Suspending short-term rentals is necessary given the circumstances. We can promise our Real Estate and Business Community we are working closely with county and state officials to monitor the situation and will resume business as usual as soon as possible.”

“There are concerns about the influx of new visitors to Asbury Park during the current public health crisis.” said Deputy Mayor Amy Quinn. “To minimize the risk to the Asbury Park community, we need to enforce social distancing guidelines and limit non-essential travel to Asbury Park, per CDC recommended guidelines.”

City Council urges residents to follow Governor Murphy’s Stay at Home Executive Order and to continue to practice safe social distancing by staying at least 6 feet away from others. Residents may still leave their homes to head to the grocery store, seek medical care, visit close family or someone you have a close personal relationship with (such as a romantic partner), report to work, or go outside for exercise.
