The theaters closed in March but could have reopened earlier this month when Gov. Phil Murphy reopened movie theaters and performance-art venues at 25 percent capacity.

Co-founder Michael Sodano, however, said in a news release that reopening at 25 percent capacity and 100 percent expenses didn’t make sense.

“Simply keeping the doors closed cost a lot of money, but opening them at a quarter capacity would only lose more money faster,” Sodano was quoted as saying in The Asbury Park Sun.
