Do The Seals A Favor And Leave Them Alone: Harvey Cedars Beach Patrol
It's not unusual for seals to come up on the beach in the winter.

If you notice a seal on the beach during the wintertime, chances are nothing is wrong, according to a post on the Harvey Cedars Beach Patrol Facebook page.
So please just leave them alone.

"They are semi-aquatic mammals, which means that unlike dolphins and whales, seals DO come out of the water from time to time, the post states. "They do this in order to rest, sleep and even sun themselves. They do this in order to rest, sleep, and even sun themselves. In other words, it is perfectly normal to see seals lying on our beaches.
And the best way to deal with a seal is to leave them alone.

If you see a seal resting on the beach:
-Keep away from the seal (by at least 150 feet)
-Keep quiet so not to alarm the seal
-Avoid calling attention to the seal so that a large crowd of viewers can be avoided
-Do not approach the seal, or offer the seal food, water or anything else
-Do not put water on the seal or try to move the seal into the water
-Dogs should be kept away from the seal at all times (by being controlled on their leashes)
