Free LBI FLY International Kite Festival Continues Through Weekend, Despite Rain,

Popular event will run from Friday night into Monday afternoon.

The second annual LBI FLY Kite Festival began Friday night, at an indoor event at the Long Beach Island Elementary School in Ship Bottom.

The festival will move outside on Saturday, Sunday and into Monday, rain or shine, barring torrential downpours, according to the festival Facebook page.

Parking is available on municipal streets, Ron Jon Surf Shop's rear lot, the Ship Bottom boat ramp, the LBI grade school in Ship Bottom and the Ethel A. Jacobsen Elementary School in Surf City.

Most of the events will take place on the beaches in Ship Bottom, Long Beach Township and Beach Haven.

The Long Beach Island bus shuttles will be running during the festivals. Stand on the Boulevard and flag a bus down for a ride. For more information, go to www.lbishuttle.com

Chick’s LBI Shop, the official Festival Merchandiser, will be on hand at all locations throughout the Kite Festival with short-sleeve and long-sleeve T-shirts and hoodies commemorating the event.

A number of local restaurants will be open in case you get hungry.
