Man Strikes Manahawkin Utility Pole, Breaks Wrist, Cuts Power In Cedar Run

Fallen wires snarled Route 9, police say.

A Stafford Township man is facing a careless driving charge after his Jeep Wrangler struck a utility pole, and sent wires spewing across Route 9 near Julian Court at 6:59 a.m. on Thursday, Officer Justin Pascale said.

Wright, 54, Cedar Run, was traveling south on Route 9 when he looked away briefly. His vehicle left the roadway and struck the pole, Pascale said.

Wright suffered a serious wrist injury and was taken to Southern Ocean Medical Center for treatment. The utility pole had snapped causing power lines to obstruct vehicular traffic on Route 9 until utility crews could arrive. Some traffic was able to be diverted around the scene during the investigation. Wright was issued a careless driving summons pending a future court appearance in Stafford Township.
