Bernards Township Superintendent's New 5-Year Contract Approved
The Bernards Township Board of Education approved the new contract with a salary of $255,000 at its June 16 meeting.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — A new contract was approved for Superintendent Nick Markarian to continue serving the Bernards Township School District for five more years.
The Bernards Township Board of Education(BOE) approved Markarian's new contract with a salary of $255,000 at the Monday, June 16 meeting.
"The Bernards Township Board of Education desires to continue to employ Nick Markarian as its Superintendent of Schools and Mr. Markarian has agreed to continue to serve in his role as Superintendent," according to the resolution.

Under his current contract(which was set to expire on June 30), he was receiving $241,501 for the 2024-25 school year, according to the New Jersey Department of Education.
The new contract will go into effect on July 1 and continue through June 30, 2030, at an initial annual salary of $255,000, subject to the terms and conditions of the employment contract as approved by the Executive County Superintendent, according to the resolution approved by the BOE.

The resolution did not break down the terms of the agreement or indicate the annual salary increases would be over the five year period.
Markarian has been with the Bernards Township School District for 24 years. He started his career in Bernards as an assistant principal in 2001.
He moved up to become school principal at William Annin until he later was appointed as Business Administrator.
In 2012, Markarian was appointed Superintendent to succeed Valerie Goger.
The next BOE meeting will be held on Monday, July 28 at the Ridge High School PAC at 7 p.m.
