Community Mourning Sudden Death Of Ridge High School Teacher

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — The Bernards Township School community is mourning the sudden loss of one of their teachers, Steven Hendershot.

"My father was an outstanding person with an exuberant personality. He worked diligently as a teacher, a mentor, a coach, and cared for everyone he had the pleasure of working with. I don’t think I could ever sing enough praises," said Hendershot's son on Instagram.

Hendershot, who served as a teacher and administrator in the district for the past 25 years, died suddenly on Wednesday night, the district announced to the school community.

He also served as a Varsity Head Coach for the wrestling team.

"We appreciate you keeping the Hendershot family and the many friends, students, community members, and staff who are close with Mr. Hendershot in your thoughts and prayers," said Superintendent Nick Markarian.

Since his death, a GoFundMe fundraising website has been set up.

Money raised will be used "for his funeral costs and helping my mom regain her footing, as my dad was working his a** off to make his dream of living with my mom at the beach come true. I love yall, and please keep my family and his friends in your thoughts and prayers," continued Hendershot's son.

"We know Steve had such a profound impact on the communities he was a part of, especially as a teacher and coach at Basking Ridge High School," according to the GoFundMe.
