Ridge High School Teacher 'Leaves Behind Legacy Of Love, Dedication, Inspiration'
Funeral services have been set for beloved Ridge High School teacher Steven R. Hendershot, who died suddenly on May 14 at the age of 54.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Funeral services have been set for beloved husband, father, coach and educator, Steven R. Hendershot, who died suddenly on May 14 at the age of 54.
"Steven Hendershot leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and inspiration that will be felt by all who knew him. He will be profoundly missed but always remembered for the countless lives he touched," according to his obituary. "Steven's life was defined by his unwavering devotion to teaching, coaching, and his family."
For the last 25 years, he served as a teacher and administrator at Ridge High School in Basking Ridge, where he was best known for mentoring countless students.

Throughout his life, Hendershot was a devoted family man. He was married to Tracy C. (Dennis) Hendershot for 28 years.
"Together, they created cherished memories, particularly during their Caribbean cruises and leisurely walks at Spruce Run with their beloved German Shepherd, Buddy. Steven took pride in nurturing his 'backyard oasis' where he enjoyed hours of bird watching. His passion for sports was evident as a dedicated fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies," according to his obituary.

Hendershot also started coaching at Delaware Valley High School and Hunterdon Central Regional High School before coming to Ridge High School, where he dedicated himself to coaching football and wrestling.
Notably, he had the privilege of coaching his son, Jacob R. Hendershot, beginning in Little League and continuing through high school athletics.
Hendershot is survived by his loving wife, Tracy; his son, Jacob R. Hendershot of Crofton, MD; and his mother, Susan (Campbell) Hendershot.
He is also remembered by his nieces, Alisha and her husband, Rafal Rak of Bangor, PA, and Brianna Dennis of Rhode Island, along with his faithful companion, Buddy. He is preceded in death by his father, Raymond E. Hendershot, Jr., who died in 2013.
A viewing will take place on Thursday, May 22, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, at 147 Main St, Flemington, followed by a funeral service at the funeral home on the same day at 7 p.m., celebrated by the Rev. Chris Ryan of Stanton Reformed Church. Interment will be private at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions will be used to establish a scholarship fund at Ridge High School. Contributions may be made to Ridge High School, 268 S Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920, where it should be noted that the contribution is in Steven's memory.
