Star Student: Amy Goes Above & Beyond For Basking Ridge Special Need Kids
We all know students who excel in academic, fine arts or volunteer service. Here's one local who is having an impact in Basking Ridge.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.
This submission comes from Monica Petraglia who nominated Amy of Basking Ridge.

How do you know the star local student?
The Bernards Parents for Exceptional Children (“PEC”) is a group of Parent Volunteers established to help families, educators and community organizations support individuals with disabilities so that they can reach their full potential. The program supports all children with special needs, whether entering the school system for the first time, returning students engaged in the BOE’s programs, or transitioning out for the future. Amy has been an integral part of this program for many years. She consistently participates in many of our activities going above and beyond for the Special Needs community.
Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?
Amy provides an outstanding level of understanding and support for our PEC children. It is only through sharing common experiences that our children will truly integrate amongst the mainstream and special needs communities. Therefore we encourage and promote activities that can be enjoyed by all children. We have seen these activities build great bonds across the mainstream and special needs children, and prove rewarding for all who participate. Amy Richman embodies the true spirit of our organization. Many of our children have become familiar with Amy through PEC events and activities, and through her in-school engagement activities with PEC children at WAMS. They look forward to her presence and participation. The PEC would like to nominate Amy as a Star Student excelling in Basking Ridge.
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?
Amy doesn’t engage with PEC for the recognition – she does it because it’s truly her calling
Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Amy!
