Tree Down On Wires Closes Road, Causes Outage In Basking Ridge

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — A passing severe thunderstorm toppled a tree in Basking Ridge causing a road closure and power outage. (See video of the heavy rain below)

Sunnybrook Road is closed due to a tree down on power wires, said the township in an alert around 8:15 a.m.

JCP&L is reporting 26 Basking Ridge customers are without power. Additionally, around 200 other customers in Bernardsville and Hillsborough are also without power.

Power is estimated to be restored by 11:30 a.m. on July 14, according to JCP&L.

Saturday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 89. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Saturday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. Southeast wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Sunday: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 85. South wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Sunday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2 a.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Partly cloudy, with a low around 69. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
