Tropical Storm Henri Churns Through Basking Ridge: Photos

Rivers across Somerset County have flooded causing roadways to remain closed on Monday morning.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Tropical Storm Henri dumped buckets of rain in Basking Ridge flooding roadways and rivers on Monday.

In the past 48 hours, 6.63 inches of rain fell in the area of Passaic River near Millington, according to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's Rainfall Data Acquisition.

A total of 6.89 inches of rain fell in the area of Lamington River at Burnt Mills and 5.79 inches of rain fell in the area of the South Branch Raritan River at South Branch.

The North Branch River at South Branch is experiencing minor flooding at 8.67 feet causing Old York Road to close between Bridgewater and Branchburg.

The Millstone River is also experiencing flooding as well as of Monday morning. The Millstone River at Griggstown is "majorly" flooding measuring at 17.23 feet, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The Millstone River normally sits at 4 feet and is currently 13 feet higher as of 9 a.m. Monday, according to NOAA.

The Raritan River at Bound Brook is also experiencing minor flooding at 28.53 feet and is expected to continue rising to 29.2 feet as of 10 p.m. on Monday.

Somerset County issued a flood warning through Tuesday as a result.

As a result, multiple Somerset County roads flooded including:

  • River Road at Mill Lane in Hillsborough
  • River Road at Riverside Drive in Hillsborough
  • Portions of Amwell Road at the Neshanic River near Blackpoint and Montgomery roads
  • Blackpoint Road in Hillsborough
  • Blackwells Mills Road in Hillsborough
  • Lyman St. Bridge in Raritan
  • Eastern Turnpike from Church Street in Bridgewater to Station Road in Branchburg
  • Burnt Mills Road between Route 28 and Cowperthaite Road in Branchburg
  • Canal Road from Bunker Hill Road to Route 518 (Georgetown Franklin Turnpike) in Franklin
  • Peapack Road in Far Hills
  • River Road East between Cowperthwaite Road and Rt. 202/206 in Bedminster
  • County Route 518 in Rocky Hill
  • Pottersville Road in Bedminster between Route 206 and Union Grove Road

Hillsborough Firefighters are urging drivers not to drive through water as it is a "life-threatening issue."

Heavy rains remain in the forecast for Monday, here is what to expect:

Today: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 83. West wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 68. Northwest wind around 5 mph.
