Since Saturday, three shot and killed, fourth person dies in traffic accident

Three people were shot and killed between Saturday and Monday and another man died after being hit by a truck in Newark, according to officials and published reports.

On Sunday, a veteran Newark police officer who was working as a security guard at the Twin City Supermarket, 611 Broadway, shot and killed a man who brandished a handgun in the store, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray and Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio said.

The identity of the officer was withheld, but on Monday authorities released the name of the suspect, Carlos Ribot, 32, whose last known address was in Monmouth County.

Around 10 pm Saturday, March 9, 19-year-old Wade Burton Jr. of Newark was shot and killed on Hobson Street, Nj.com reported.

Murad Mallard, 31, was shot and killed around 4:30 pm Monday on North Munn Street, said Chief of Detectives Anthony Ambrose of the prosecutor’s office.

About a half-hour later, a 26-year-old bicyclist was struck by a tanker truck on Jabez Street, where he was pronounced dead, Amrbose said. Ambrose did not release infornation about the victim but he was identified by Nj.com as a Honduran immigrant named Juan Isais.

All of the incidents are under investigation.
