Thief Steals Booze, Cigarettes Before Caught in Failed Hiding Attempt, Cops Say
Belleville resident accused of shoplifting, resisting arrest and burglary.

A 39-year-old Belleville resident shoplifted about $75 worth of liquor and cigarettes from a Union Avenue store and was caught when he attempted to hide on a nearby porch, police said.
Police said Angel Colon ran out of a Union Avenue store at about 7:40 p.m. on June 22 after stealing a bottle of Hennessy and a pack of Newport cigarettes. An officer then spotted him running east on Joralemon.
Colon ducked into a backyard on Washington Ave., where police said he tried to hide in a house’s porch.

Colon was charged with shoplifting and resisting arrest. He was also charged with burglary stemming from his attempt to hide at the Washington Street residence. He was held on a $30,000 bail.
