Belleville Historical Society To Host Wreaths Across America Day

Wreaths will be set on the graves of nearly 100 veterans buried at St. Peter's Church in Belleville on Saturday, Dec. 18.

BELLEVILLE, NJ — The Belleville Historical Society will take part in Wreaths Across America Day next month.

The society will be joining sponsors at 2,500 other cemeteries across America in remembering and placing wreaths at the graves of U.S. veterans.

On Dec. 18 at 12 p.m., wreaths will be set on the graves of about 100 veterans buried at St. Peter's Church at 114 William St. in Belleville.

The St. Peter Church event will be followed by a visit to Glendale cemetery in Bloomfield to set wreaths at the graves of young men from Belleville and Nutley killed in action.

The society will visit and set wreaths at more than a dozen cemeteries in North Jersey where young men from Belleville who were killed in action are interred.

The society also sets wreaths at the graves of Medal of Honor recipients and a number of key historical figures in the area.

In addition to St. Peter and Glendale cemeteries, the society will set wreaths at Mount Olivet, Holy Cross, Arlington, Immaculate Conception and other cemeteries.
