“A passionate golfer, in recent years Billy often enjoyed unwinding at MRH after a round of golf. It was there where many of our last conversations took place. Billy's devotion to his family, his country and his township was unwavering.

“I remember the 2000 May council election like it was yesterday. Billy and I were on the same ticket, I won the fourth ward council seat and Billy won the third ward. Shortly thereafter, one of my first acts as a young councilma was to support Billy's appointment as mayor. Billy was a man's man, true gentleman. We need more Billy Escotts in the world.

“I have asked the township manager to place mourning bunting at all municipal buildings and fly the flag at Town Hall at half-mast as the township collectively mourns. Please keep his beloved family in your thoughts and prayers.

“Rest in peace, Mayor.”
