Devastating Apartment Fire Leaves Nutley Families Reeling As Holidays Approach

Nutley school administrators have launched a recovery effort to aid the victims of the blaze.

NUTLEY, NJ — The Nutley community is pulling together to help the victims of a devastating fire that took place last weekend.

The apartment fire broke out on Yale Street on Saturday. Firefighters continued to battle the blaze amid frigid winter temperatures through the early morning, according to a post from Nutley FMBA Local 44.

The Nutley Public School District reported that the fire “deeply affected several of our students, families, and neighbors.”

“Some families have lost their homes and many personal belongings, and our hearts are with all those impacted during this difficult time,” Superintendent Kent Bania wrote.

“We have been humbled by the many messages from families, staff, and community members asking how they can help,” Bania said. “In response, the district is working to support those in need and to ensure assistance is provided in a thoughtful and organized way.”

The superintendent continued:

“Our buildings and PTOs are ready to support these families. If you are interested in donating, please let your building principal know, who will then direct you to the appropriate PTO contact. Over the course of the next few days/weeks, we will speak with the families as their needs develop. We would like to put plans in place to support them as we enter this holiday season.”

“In addition, if you or your family have been directly impacted by the fire and need support, please contact the principal at your child’s school, so we can connect you with available resources,” Bania said.
