Did you happen to see a flyer about a "high-rise" project in Belleville? Check your sources before leaping to conclusions, officials say.

BELLEVILLE, NJ — Did you happen to see a flyer about a “high-rise” development in Belleville? Check your sources before leaping to conclusions, officials say.

Last week, Belleville town officials released a statement after getting complaints about information in an anonymous flyer, which was found between Union Avenue and Bell Street between Overlook Avenue and Greylock Parkway.

“The flyer makes allegations about a high-rise development application pending before the planning board. This is not true. Additionally, there is no application before the mayor and council for a tax abatement or payment in lieu of taxes (PILOT) for the identified address in this flyer. While there was an application, which is NOT for a high-rise, before the planning board for the proposed address, that application has been postponed until January and will not be heard on Thursday, Dec. 9. That development application has never come before the mayor and council, nor would it be appropriate to do so.”

“The township urges concerned residents to call Town Hall for official information and not rely on anonymous flyers/letters,” officials added. “Anyone with information or video of the individual(s) placing these fictitious, misleading flyers mailboxes are urged to contact the Belleville Police Department at 973-450-3333.”

According to the agenda for the Dec. 9 planning board meeting, there was one adjournment which will now be heard on Jan. 13, involving 524 Union Avenue, where Acumen Realty LLC is seeking preliminary and final major site plan approval and bulk variance relief to construct a four-story mixed-use building. The proposal includes two commercial tenant spaces on the ground floor and 27 residential dwelling units above with associated parking.
