Belleville Police Detective Again Voted President of State PBA

Anthony Wieners, a longtime Belleville police detective, last week was elected to another term as president of the state Police Benevolent Association, Nj.com reported Monday.

Wieners, a 32-year veteran of the Belleville force, has been president of the PBA since 2008. His latest term as head of the 33,000-member union is three years.

Wieners's presidency coincides with the economic doldrums caused by the 2008 recession, a time when departments across the state, including Belleville’s, have reduced manpower through attrition. Weiners has been an outspoken critic of Gov. Chris Christie’s measures to improve the state’s finances through cuts to public-sector benefits.

In 2011, Wieners, who comes from a family of law-enforcement officers, served as grand marshal of the Nutley St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
