Belleville Senior Center Reopens After Air Conditioning Goes Out

BELLEVILLE, NJ — The Belleville Senior Center is back in action after its air conditioner system went on the fritz last week.

The township released an advisory on June 19, announcing that the senior center – located at 125 Franklin Avenue – was being closed until further notice. The closure was due to a failure with the HVAC system.

On Monday, the town released an update, noting that temporary air conditioning units have been installed at the center and are fully operational.

“The building is back to normal operations while the permanent unit is replaced,” the advisory said. “Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this transition.”

Temperatures have been scorching across New Jersey this week, with a heat advisory in effect for the Belleville area until Wednesday evening.

The thermometer is finally expected to go down later this week; weather forecasters are calling for several days of rain leading into the weekend.

According to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service, here’s what is coming down the pipe for Belleville over the next few days:

• Thursday: A 50 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 81. East wind 7 to 10 mph.
• Thursday Night: A 50 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. East wind 7 to 9 mph.
• Friday: A 20 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 71. East wind 8 to 10 mph.
• Friday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 66.
• Saturday: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 83.
• Saturday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70.
• Sunday: A 30 percent chance of showers after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 84.
• Sunday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers before 8pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 70.
