BELLEVILLE, NJ — It was a “heartfelt reminder of the weekend’s true meaning,” a pair of Belleville sisters say.
Selena and Sabrina Kossup – who have become known for doing good deeds in town – recently carried out their latest act of kindness on Memorial Day weekend: a tribute to fallen soldiers.
The siblings distributed more than 400 U.S. flags on the lawns of their friends and neighbors in the Rutan Estates to commemorate the holiday.

According to Kossups, each flag was respectfully placed on a soldier’s grave at Glendale Cemetery last year. Every year, these flags are renewed and then donated to neighbors in the community.
The Kossups thanked the American Legion Post 105 Belleville for contributing flags towards the effort.

The Memorial Day tribute was the most recent example of the sisters’ “Wave of Positivity” campaign, which has included food drives, back to school giveaways and more.

“Sabrina and I were proud to carry the Wave of Positivity into Memorial Day weekend,” Selena Kossup told Patch.
“By placing American flags on each of our neighbors’ lawns, we hoped to offer a heartfelt reminder of the weekend’s true meaning,” Kossup added.
It was a gesture well-received, she said.
“As we made our way through the Rutan Estates, we were warmly greeted by neighbors who shared in our excitement and appreciation to witness our initiative in action,” Kossup recalled. “One local neighbor, curious about who had placed the flags, was happy to learn it was us.”
