Belleville Town Budget Heads Into Home Stretch (See Tax Impact)

BELLEVILLE, NJ — Belleville is heading towards the home stretch with its latest town budget.
The Belleville Township Council held a public hearing for the 2025 municipal budget at their meeting on Tuesday. The proposed spending plan still awaits a final vote from the council.
Mayor Michael Melham recapped some of the numbers in a social media post. According to the mayor, the budget will include an $89 increase to the municipal portion of an average homeowner’s property taxes.

“That means over the last five years, every single municipal budget increase has been under $99,” Melham said.
The five-year average municipal tax increase is $73, he added.

Property taxes in New Jersey are mainly made up of three parts: school, municipal and county.

Earlier this month, the state monitor appointed to Belleville overturned a vote from the local school board. The decision greenlights the district’s 2025-2026 budget, which will come with a $126 tax increase for a home assessed at $279,900. Read More: State Monitor Makes Decision On Belleville School Budget
