Belleville Will Celebrate 2022 World Cup Kickoff With ‘Watch Party’

BELLEVILLE, NJ — Want to cheer for Ecuador (or Qatar) in the kickoff game of this year’s World Cup? Belleville is planning to hold a public watch party on a giant screen, and cameras are expected to be there to capture the soccer-crazy town’s celebration, officials say.
The town’s watch party will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 20 at Belleville High School, 100 Passaic Avenue, when Ecuador takes on host country Qatar in the opening game of the World Cup.
Food and drinks will be available for purchase; visitors are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets, town officials said.

“We have a large Ecuadorian population in Belleville, not to mention a fervent soccer fan base,” Mayor Michael Melham said.
