Body Of NJ Man Pulled From Passaic River: Police

The body of a North Jersey man was pulled from the Passaic River over the weekend after a passing rower noticed the body, authorities said.

BELLEVILLE, NJ - The body of a New Jersey man was pulled from the Passaic River over the weekend, authorities said.

At around 7:39 a.m. on Saturday, Kearny police notified Belleville police of a body floating in the Passaic River near the Rutgers Street Bridge, Belleville police told Patch. The call stemmed from a 911 report from a man rowing in the river when he discovered the body.

The Kearny Fire Department used a rescue boat to retrieve the body near Grafton Avenue in Newark, police said.

The man, a Black 49-year-old from Newark, has been identified, police said. His name is being held pending notification to next of kin.

The deceased was wearing black pants and black hooded sweatshirt with the word “Cincinnati” in red across his chest, police said. The body showed now apparent signs of injury and was transported to the Essex County Medical Examiner’s Office.
