Former Coach Admits to Sex With Student

Scott Rubinetti concedes he had affair with 17-year-old female student, will be sentenced April 19.

A former Lyndhurst High School head football coach from Nutley admitted in court Monday he took part in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old female studentand later asked her to lie about the affair, according to a NorthJersey.com report Monday.

Scott Rubinetti, 40, was arrested in January 2012 after a teacher informed school administrators the football coach was having an affair with a student. School officials contacted authorities after the student admitted to relationship, officials said.

In return for his guilty plea, Rubinetti will avoid jail time, but faces a maximum of five years probation when he is sentenced April 19 in state Superior Court in Hackensack. Rubinetti must also register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law, and is barred from working or volunteering as a teacher or a coach.
