New Brunswick Man Allegedly Robbed Valley National Bank

A New Brunswick man who allegedly robbed five area banks – including one Belleville bank two times and a Newark bank – has been arrested and charged in the incidents, law enforcement officials announced Thursday.

Peter Greer, 38, is charged with robbing a Valley National Bank in Belleville on both Nov. 6, 2012 and Feb. 23, 2013, according to a Thurssday, March 14 published report on NorthJersey.com.

Greer used the same procedure in all the robberies, officials said. He’d enter the bank, approach the teller, and then hand the teller a note claiming he had a gun and demanded money.

In the Newark incident, Greer is charged with robbing a Newark Sovereign Bank in October 2012.

Officials said surveillance footage of the suspect taken from the bank on the day of the robberies and during the attempted robbery matches the general appearance of Greer from his driver license's photo. After being taken into custody on an unrelated charge, Greer admitted to FBI agents he was the person who robbed the banks.

If convicted on the bank robbery charges, Greer faces a maximum of 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000, or twice the gross gain or loss from the offense, for each count with which he is charged.

He made his first court appearance Wednesday, March 13 before U.S. Judge Michael A. Hammer in Newark federal court.
