Nutley Plans To Add Pickleball, Upgrade Tennis Courts At Owens Field
Nutley's popular tennis area will now be complemented by the country's fastest-growing sport.
NUTLEY, NJ — Pickleball players will soon have a new reason to play ball in Nutley.
Earlier this month, Nutley town officials announced that there are plans to add six pickleball courts and upgrade two tennis courts at the Owens Field complex.
Nutley’s popular tennis area will now be complemented by the country’s fastest- growing sport, officials said. Over the past four years, pickleball has exploded in popularity, growing by over 50 percent from 2022 to 2023, and 223.5 percent from 2020 to the present day.

Nutley Parks and Recreation Commissioner Mauro Tucci said the courts are expected to be ready later in May.
“We’ve reconstructed two of the tennis courts where the tennis courts were,” Tucci said. “We’re also installing six brand-new pickleball courts to complement the ones we already have at DeMuro Park.”

“The courts at DeMuro are always packed, so the idea of adding new courts at Owens was a no-brainer,” Tucci said. “Everyone is excited about it.”
