Nutley Police Mourn Retired Captain, Thomas Strumolo
Strumolo, a retired police captain, was also a longtime realtor. He was born in Newark, raised in Belleville and moved to Bloomfield.
NUTLEY, NJ — A retired police captain in Nutley with deep ties in Essex County has died, prompting a touching message of condolence from the local police department he served for more than 35 years.
The Nutley Police Department shared the following message on Wednesday:
“The Nutley Police Department regrets to announce the passing of retired captain Thomas Strumolo, father of chief Thomas Strumolo. Retired captain Strumolo served the citizens of Nutley for over 35 years with honor, integrity, distinction and dedication.”

“Captain Strumolo truly cared about the citizens of Nutley and the officers within the Nutley Police Department. Captain Strumolo was an inspirational leader who served in almost every capacity throughout the Nutley Police Department and left a positive impact wherever he was. Captain Strumolo was a warm and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. Please keep the entire Strumolo family in your thoughts and prayer during this most difficult time.”
According to his obituary, Strumolo, 73, was born in Newark, raised in Belleville and moved to Bloomfield 50 years ago. In addition to his policing career, Strumolo was a licensed realtor for 42 years.
