Nutley RAKES Program Helps 75 Seniors In 2016

Over 125 volunteers, participated in the Department of Public Works' RAKES (Random Acts of Kindness Extended to Seniors) Program.

From The Office of Mayor Joseph P. Scarpelli: Mayor Dr. Joseph Scarpelli reported that the 9th Annual Department of Public Works’ RAKES (Random Acts of Kindness Extended to Seniors) Program, with over 125 volunteers, cleaned and bagged the leaves of over 75 senior citizens’ properties.

“I would like to thank the many volunteers that donated their time and efforts. Lincoln School’s Kindness Committee, Boy and Girl Scout troops, the Knights of Columbus, Cross Fit-Nutley Gym, the NHS football team, along with a number of other civic groups that participated. A special thank you to Mr. Piro and Coach Basile for their assistance in making the program a success,” said Dr. Scarpelli. “Our citizens, along with the town’s many civic and service organizations, continue to make a difference in our community. It is this volunteer spirit that makes Nutley a unique and special place to live and work,” said Scarpelli.

With the recent purchase of the former Roche campus by Prism Capital Partners and the new medical school scheduled to open in the fall of 2018, the new Mayor is excited about the future of the Township.

“The Board of Commissioner is looking forward to working with Prism to fill the remaining empty buildings, redevelop the site, replace ratables, boost our local economy, provide job opportunities for our residents, and increase our property values,” concluded Mayor Scarpelli.
