Republicans Get Strong Nutley Support in Primary Election
GOP candidates outperformed Democratic counterparts in all races.

With no local contests on the line, Republicans pulled in more Nutley votes than Democrats in almost every contest according to unofficial results reported by the Nutley Clerk’s office.
Four hundred ninety one Nutley voters cast ballots for incumbent Republican Governor Chris Christie and 375 came to the polls in support of Democrat Barbara Buono. Democrat Troy Webster received 23 votes and Republican Seth Grossman got 33.
Incumbent Democratic State Senator Ronald Rice ran unopposed for his party’s nomination and received 326 votes in Nutley. Nutley Republican Frank Contella ran unopposed for his party’s nomination and received 449 votes in his hometown.

Defending his seat as an Essex County Freeholder, Democrat Gerald Owens brought in 288 votes. Democrat Clinton Robinson pulled in 26 Nutley voters in the same contest and Calvin I. Okwuego garnered 13. Running unopposed, Republican Freeholder candidate David Pinckney drew 410 votes.
Incumbent Democratic Assembly members Cleopatra G. Tucker and Ralph Caputo ran unopposed for their party’s nomination, receiving 311 votes and 346, respectively. James Boydston of Bloomfield and Peter Manning ran unopposed for the Republican nomination to run for Assembly and received 406 and 412 votes.
