Education in the Spotlight this Week in Belleville and Nutley

Notable news and events in Belleville and Nutley.

Belleville’s Board of Education meets for the first time after the announcement that students graduating from fifth grade this year will be attending the Middle School in September.

The announcement caught many parents by surprise by the move, which was announced with less than a month left in the current school year. Another meeting marked with back and forth between school officials and attendees is likely.

Nutley’s School Board also meets on Monday night. The agenda, includes a presentation on the Winter Guard program and Common Language/Common Vision, is online here

Belleville’s Municipal Council is scheduled to meet on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Council Chambers in Town Hall.

Nutley holds its weekly “Cruisin’ at Nutley” event on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The free classic car show takes place at Municipal Lot #1, at the intersection of Franklin Ave. and Williams Street.

On Thursday, at 6:30 p.m. officials will hold a reception for Nutley High School art students at the Pedestrian Walkway, adjacent to Municipal Parking Lot #1 and the Centennial Cwho took part in the Pedestrian Walkway Art Contest.  The reception will take place indoors in the 2nd floor banquet room of Franklin Steak House in the event of inclement weather. 

Nutley’s farmer’s market returns on Sunday. In addition to the opportunity to buy fresh produce, cheese, artisan breads and more, there will be guest and entertainment, including Produce Pete of WNBC's Weekend Today in NY and music by the township’s TK Music School.
