NUTLEY, NJ — A woman was found sleeping inside a vacant home for sale in Nutley last week and charged with criminal trespass, authorities said.
According to the Nutley Police Department, officers got an anonymous call on Nov. 11 about a person possibly staying in the home, which is located on Brookline Avenue.
Officers found the door to the home unlocked and the basement lights on. After further investigation, they found a woman sleeping on the floor of the kitchen in a sleeping bag. The woman told officers she had been staying there “for a while,” authorities said.

Police noted that there didn’t seem to be any signs of forced entry or criminal mischief to the property’s interior.
Officers secured the home and took the 25-year-old woman – whose listed address was Jersey City – into custody, later finding that she had an outstanding warrant out of Barnegat. Police didn’t disclose the reason for the warrant in an initial statement.
