9/11 Families Blast Trump Over Saudi-Backed Golf Event At NJ Club
The group 9/11 Justice has asked Trump to cancel the event planned at his golf club in Bedminster.
BEDMINSTER, NJ — Families of those killed on 9/11 are calling on former President Donald Trump to cancel a Saudi-funded golf tournament scheduled this month at his New Jersey golf club.
The LIV Golf tournament will be held July 29-31 at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster. LIV Golf is a private international golf tour funded by Saudi Arabia which has garnered criticism from 9/11 families in the past.
In a letter first shared by The New York Times, members of the group 9/11 Justice asked to meet with Trump and that he not hold the event.

"We simply cannot understand how you could agree to accept money from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s golf league to host their tournament at your golf course, and to do so in the shadows of ground zero in New Jersey, which lost over 700 residents during the attacks," the group wrote in the letter.

The group went on, saying it was "incomprehensible" that Trump or anyone else would ignore what happened on 9/11 for personal financial gain.
Trump has previously blamed Saudi Arabia for the 2001 attack. The letter cited a February 2016 statement by Trump: "Who blew up the World Trade Center? It wasn’t the Iraqis. It was Saudi. Take a look at Saudi Arabia."
On Monday, Trump continued to support the tournament through a statement shared on his social media platform, Truth Social.
In the message, Trump targeted the Professional Golfers Association, which moved its 2022 championship from his golf course over the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, Newsweek reported. He did not address the concerns of 9/11 families.
"All of those golfers that remain 'loyal' to the very disloyal PGA, in all of its different forms, will pay a big price when the inevitable MERGER with LIV comes, and you get nothing but a big 'thank you' from PGA officials who are making Millions of Dollars a year," Trump wrote.
Brett Eagleson, the president of 9/11 Justice, emailed Trump on Sunday and had not received a response, he told The New York Times.
