Horse Trapped In Muddy Pond Rescued By Firefighters, Police In Somerset County: Video

BEDMINSTER, NJ — Firefighters and police rescued a horse trapped in a muddy pond in Bedminster on Thursday. (See the video of the rescue below)

At around 2 p.m., Bedminster Police Officers went to Heronwood Farm off Cedar Ridge Road for a horse rescue.

"The horse had become stuck in a muddy pond and was buried up to its stomach," said Bedminster Police Lt. Thomas Polito.

Far Hills-Bedminster Fire Department

Far Hills-Bedminster Fire Department worked with the owner of the horse, their veterinarian, the farm owners, and specialized technical rescue members from both Somerset County OEM and Hunterdon County.

Emergency responders used a backhoe and a hoist to pull the horse out of the mud.

Far Hills-Bedminster Fire Department

"The animal was removed from the pond and is in stable condition," said Far Hills-Bedminster Fire Chief Carson Brienza.

Emergency responders that also helped in the rescue included Peapack–Gladstone Fire, Whitehouse Rescue, South Branch Emergency Services, Hunterdon County Urban Search and Rescue, Somerset County OEM, Bedminster Township DPW, and Robert Wood Johnson EMS.

"Thanks to the coordinated efforts of all responders, the horse was successfully freed from the pond and appears to be doing well," said Polito.
