Annual Basket Day Returning to Lamington Church

Lamington Presbyterian Church is holding its annual event next week.

The Lamington Presbyterian Church is holding its Basket Day, a tradition it has held for more than 50 years.

The event will be held April 30 and May 1 at the church on Lamington Road.

“This is our 53rd annual Basket Day, and the public is invited to join us for this community event,” said event chair Kim McGeary in a release about the event. “We’ll have great food and drink, and the best pre-Mother’s Day shopping in the area.”

A preview party will be held April 30 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and will include live music, appetizers, wine and shopping, the release said. Admission to the party is $25.

The main event, Basket Day itself, will be held May 1 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with all the same boutiques and tents from the evening before, as well as a lunch prepared by church members.

The admission to Basket Day is free, the release said, and luncheon tickets cost $15.

The event will also include the Presbyterian Palate, with frozen homemade meals-to-go and fresh baked goods, while guests will also have the chance to pick out colorful flower baskets, bid on silent auction items like vacation home rentals and pick out hand-knitted items created by church members.

Attendees will also have the chance to shop for jewelry, accessories, home and garden items and more.

Basket Day initially began in 1961 by a group of church women who wanted to hold an open house and display quilts they had made. Since then, it has become the largest annual fundraiser for the church.
