This biography follows Peggy Shippen Arnold, wife of treasonous General Benedict Arnold, and Lucy Knox, wife of General Henry Knox who trained George Washington’s troops while at the Vanderveer House.
Stuart in her book, the release said, studies the correspondence of the two women, historical accounts of the time and more to determine the roles the women played in the American Revolution.

The book, the release said, shows new research on Lucy Knox that portrays her as a needy bride who was compelled to follow her husband through the army camps of the revolution, and Stuart shows the challenges she faced during the war. Lucy Knox gave birth to 13 children, the release said, with only three of them surviving to adulthood.
But, the release said, the book establishes that Lucy Knox remained loyal to her husband even as she was required to move among different camps and she mastered the skills of social hostess for military galas and more.
The Vanderveer House will be one of several stops on Stuart’s book tour to promote the book. The book will be available for sale at the event.
