New Member to be Appointed to Bedminster BOE
District will also determine how to make up school days lost during the superstorm.

The Bedminster Township School Board of Education will look into how to handle make-up days from Superstorm Sandy at Thursday’s meeting.
Board president Louis Casella said Superintendent Carolyn Koos will be giving a recommendation.
The district was closed for one week after losing power during the storm Oct. 29, but already made up two of those days by being open on Nov. 8 and Nov. 9, which was originally off for the NJEA Teachers Convention.

In addition, the board of education will be interviewing two candidates and choosing one to fill a position on the board for the coming year.
The vacancy was created in August when member Jason Anagonstis resigned from his position. The board, at that time, opened up the opportunity to residents to submit applications to be on the board because it was too late to put the position on the ballot for the November elections.

Resident Drew Isaacs was the only one to submit an application, but the board opted not to vote on whether to give him the position after he was interviewed at the Oct. 22 meeting.
When the board missed the 65-day deadline to fill the seat, the decision was passed on to the county superintendent, and residents were invited to submit applications by Nov. 15.
The county superintendent, Casella said, has narrowed it down to two candidates, Laura Govan and Monica Burch.
“The county superintendent has interviewed all of the candidates for the open seat and has recommended that the board interview two candidates and make an appointment,” he said.
Usually the county superintendent will make the appointment, Casella said, but because she felt both candidates were qualified, she has passed the decision on to the board of education.
“She felt that the two candidates were both very qualified and each had strengths,” he said. “They were so close, she felt it was best for the local board to make the final decision since we will be working together.”
The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Bedminster Township School on Somerville Road.
