Bedminster Schools Open, Bernardsville Council to Discuss Turf Bond This Week

Memorial service for 9/11 victims set for Wednesday at Bernardsville Public Library.

Bedminster Township Public School opens the 2013-14 Monday, with students in the K-8 district due to attend classes through next June 19 — unless an extra snow/emergency day pushes the final day of the school year to June 20.

For Bedminster School students with older siblings, those attending Bernards High School began their school year last Friday, as part of the Somerset Hills Regional High School.

Generally, the two school systems try to coordinate schedules — but not this year, Somerset Hills school officials said at the last school board meeting.

Meanwhile, the next Bedminster Township Public School Board of Education is not scheduled until Sept. 19; the school's PTO is scheduled to meet on Sept. 16.

A subject that will affect the regional school district — even if on Bernardsville Borough property — is scheduled to come up again when the Bernardsville Borough Council meets at 7 p.m. on Monday at Borough Hall.

Following a special Saturday morning meeting in late August, The council is scheduled to take a second and final vote on whether to repeal a $1.2M bond ordinance approved Aug. 12 to pay for installing a synthetic turf field over a grass field at the municipal Upper Polo Grounds in Bernardsville.

The council's special Saturday morning meeting resulted in a first-step vote to repeal the bond ordinance — but some officials are hoping for another way to gather support for the synthetic field, which would serve borough athletic organizations, and also is used by the Somerset Hills school district.

Remembrance on Wednesday for 9/11 victims, to be held at Bernardsville Library

Bernardsville residents Allison Horstmann Jones and Thomas Reinig will be remembered on Wednesday at a 9/11 memorial service at 6:30 p.m. at the Bernardsville Public Library, 1 Anderson Hill Road in Bernardsville.
