Bernards High-Dayton Football Game Moved to Friday
Lightning postpones Mountaineers' season opener and Dayton's ribbon cutting of new turf field.

The Bernards High football team was due to open its 2013 season Thursday night at Jonathan Dayton High School at 7 p.m. — but thunder and lightning put an end to those plans.
The game now has been rescheduled for 4 p.m., again to be held at Dayton in Springfield.
Dayton High School was due to debut its new turf field at the first game of season, Head Football Coach Jon Simoneau said earlier. But the storm canceled the 6:30 p.m. ribbon-cutting and things didn't get any better from there, according to a report on Springfield Patch.
A fan bus run had been proposed to transport Bernards fans to the game in Springfield for $10 per rider, but the bus was called off as of Thursday afternoon, said Bernards High Athletic Director Mike Hoppe.
The Bernards High vs. Dayton game was still on of 4 p.m. on Thursday, Hoppe said, even as some games were being rescheduled due to predicted thunder and lightning.
If the game is called off, "plan B" is for 4 p.m. on Friday, Hoppe said on Thursday afternoon.
The second scheduled Mountaineers varsity football game game, at David Brearley High School in Kenilworth, also is an away game, according to the schedule on the Somerset Hills website.
