Bernards High School Girls’ Fencing Team Win Over Bergen Tech
The team competed in the quarterfinals of the NJSIAA "Sweet Sixteen" State Team Tournament on Wednesday.

BERNARDSVILLE, NJ — Bernards High School Girls’ Fencing team won their meet 14-13 over Bergen Tech on Wednesday, Feb. 21 in the quarterfinals of the NJSIAA “Sweet Sixteen” State Team Tournament.
Bernards earned their spot in the tournament by taking first place in the District 5 tournament and then beating Montgomery High School in the first round.
Bernards sabre squad, with juniors Stella MacDonald-Salerno, Emma Grau, Avery and Julia Haas, earned eight wins toward the team victory. Stella MacDonald-Salerno and Emma Grau both went 3-0. The foil squad, consisting of Brianna Ho, Iniya Saravanan and Grace Constantelos contributed three wins. The epee squad, Alana Natilli, Arden Adeo and Fiona Vitali, brought three wins for Bernards. Fiona Vitali had the winning bout to bring the team the win at 14-12.

Bernards, coached by Michael Mrak, Cole DeGeorges and Jonathan Cherng, will move on to the semifinals on February 27th at home against Holy Angels. The winner of that meet will move on to the final round for state champion, which will take place on Feb. 29 at Morris Hills High School.
