Bernards Batters Bound Brook to Stay Unbeaten
Mountaineers football improves to 7-0 on the season, game to be broadcast on MSG Varsity on Monday and Wednesday.
As the Bernards High Mountaineer football team heads to the end of the season for regular games, Friday night's 42-7 win over Bound Brook notches up the team's season record to an unbeaten 7-0.
The team held the potent Bound Brook offense under 200 yards of total offense, while Bernards players took turns logging touchdowns through the night.
The Bernards vs. Bound Brook game will air on channel 14 on Cablevision at 10:30 p.m. on Monday and at 4 p.m. Wednesday, said Eloise Pisano, a spokeswoman for MSG Varsity.
The game should also be available by Wednesday on Cablevision's on-demand channel, 614, Pisano said.
The team next plays Governor Livingston High School in Berkeley Heights at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3. The last scheduled game is at home against Delaware Valley Regional High School on Nov. 21.
In Friday's game, Bernards quarterback Devin Ray found wide receiver John Maddaluna for a 42-yard touchdown reception on the first offensive possession. Minutes later Maddaluna again broke free for an 8-yard rushing touchdown.

Senior running back Cameron Broughton had rushing touchdowns of 2 and 8 yards adding to an efficient Mountaineers offense. Ray completed passes to six different receivers, finishing 9-11 for 127 yards and 1 touchdown and had a 22 yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter.
On the season. Ray has connected with Maddaluna for 28 receptions for 719 yards and 10 touchdowns. But it was the Bernards defense that rose to the occasion with the second game of the year broadcast on MSG Varsity. They finished the night with 3 sacks, 3 fumble recoveries, and an interception by John Maddaluna.

Bound Brook's strong record fell to 5-2. The team will play Belvidere at home next Friday.
