Enjoy Art Around Town on Tuesday

If it ends up raining on Tuesday, your day needn't be ruined.

If the weatherman is right, and Tuesday summons a return of showers, there are a number of places where you can find bright scenes — at least on a canvas.

The Center of Contemporary Art in Bedminster, open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Monday through Friday, is hosting a vivid and imaginative annual members' non-juried and children's book illustration exhibit that runs through Aug. 30. Artists from throughout the area are featured.

The CCA is located at 2020 Burnt Mills Road in Bedminster. The phone number is 908-234-2345. More information is at ccabedminster.org.

Meanwhile ARTsee, a group of two dozen artists from the Bernardsville and Basking Ridge area, will exhibit at the Clarence Dillon Public Library at 2336 Lamington Road in Bedminster through Aug. 29. There will be a reception for the artists and public from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 15.

The exhibit will be held in the downstairs meeting rooms of the Library. Admission is free and open to the public. For more information, 908-234-2325.

Now that the last day, Monday, has passed to drop off book donations for the upcoming Somerset Hills Branch of the American Association of University Women used book sale at the Bernardsville Middle School , volunteers will be plenty busy continuing to sort books before the sale opens on Thursday.

The actual sale itself this year is from noon to 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 8 and Friday, Aug. 9, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10. The sale benefits the AAUW's scholarships program, local libraries and other charities.

Bonnie Gould of Basking Ridge, chair of the sale, on Monday said that the sale organizers have all the books they need — and all the volunteers, too.

Other organizers said that 30-plus high school students donated their time during the collection period to haul in book donations, and start sorting, and another 15 adult volunteers made themselves available to help the regular AAUW members.

Book prices will remain the same as last year, according to information on the Somerset Hills AAUW website. Books, both hardback and paperback, in the main room will be sold at $1, except for some of the smaller children’s books that will be sold at 50 cents.

On the first day, Thursday, there will be a 25 percent added premium on books in the main room. Rare and choice books in the separate room managed by Beryl Hunter are priced individually and are not subject to the first-day 25 percent premium.

There is no admission charge to attend the book sale. However, admission numbers will be passed out to determine entry order for the long line that always forms on the morning of the first day of the sale starting at 9 a.m., the website said.
