Freezing Rain, Snow Showers Hammer Bedminster, Schools Set Delayed Openings for Weather

Bedminster public schools had a two-hour delayed opening today as local residents prepare for wet, freezing, and hazardous conditions Monday.

Winter Storm Linus dropped very little snow accumulation in Bedminster Sunday night, but more could fall today the NWS reports. The township will be hit with freezing rain, snow showers, and sleet that will turn into all snow after 2 p.m. The chance of snow showers will continue to affect the area until 9 p.m.

A total accumulation of less than one inch will fall during the day. It will be bitter cold in Bedminster Monday tonight. Temperatures will plummet to 10 degrees tonight with a wind chills falling to 2 degrees below zero.

Icy conditions and 21 mile-per-hour winds will create hazardous conditions on roads and side walks. Speed restrictions are in affect on the Garden State Parkway, the New Jersey Turnpike and other major highways as accidents and downed wires continue to plague travellers around the state. The National Weather Service issued a “Winter Storm Warning,” Sunday saying a “significant” storm could possibly dump up to three to nine inches of snow in New Jersey, and much rain, sleet and snow in South Jersey.

The winter storm warning will remain in affect through Monday afternoon at 1 p.m. There is the potential for one-tenth to one-quarter inch of ice, according to the National Weather Service.
