Land Use Board to Hear Kirby Solar Farm Application

The application is expected to be heard for the first time Thursday.

The Land Use Board is expected to hear the beginnings of an application for a possible solar farm at Kirby Farms.

The hearing will be held during the meeting Thursday at 7 p.m. at the municipal building on Miller Lane.

The application is looking for the installation of a 55-acre, 49,000-panel industrial-scale solar power plant on the 106-acre residentially zoned Kirby Farm.

The farm would power only Sanofi-Aventis on Route 202/206 in Bridgewater.

A group called Preserve Bedminster, led by resident Jill Barone, is opposing the application from KDC Solar of Bedminster.

Residents have expressed concern about the health risks of being exposed to so many solar panels, and have said they believe the approval of this solar farm will harm the aesthetics of the town itself.

The application was expected to begin May 2, but that Land Use Board meeting was canceled.
